Collingwood is a town in Simcoe-Grey County, Ontario.
The town has quite some attractions – the annual Elvis Festival to name one, but the one that brought me there was the Apple Pie Trail of the Grey County. It is a culinary adventure inspired by the local apple growing history. I love apple pie, so just the name already got me interested.
So I went there with apple treats in mind, and some trails to venture. I also booked a massage in their Scandinave Spa. Apparently this is a very popular spa, and get very busy in late spring into the summer/early fall. I went in early April, so I did not have problem booking an appointment.
Well, spring came late that year and it should be no surprise that the trees would be all branches and twigs with no leaves. But it was still kind of disappointing. It also rained with strong wind just a few days earlier, so I opted not to go to the less paved trails.
I then switched direction to the walking trails the B&B owner had mentioned. And I was impressed. The walking trails had nice boardwalk in some parts. There are different kind of birds and different plants and trees. It was really nice to stroll around – pretty relaxing. Some spots have a really nice view as well. Another spot was the Sunset Point Park, which as the name suggested – a good spot for enjoying sunset.
The spa was really amazing with cold and hot pools, different type of sauna, steam rooms and best of all – hammocks!! The place was really serene – no phones allowed and people were pretty quiet. A perfect place to relax.
As I was there, I also visited the neighbouring places: Blue Mountain Village and the Wasaga Beach. Blue Mountain village is a popular ski destination, and there are a lot happening there in the summer (a big salsa festival is one of the event they have in the summer). In April, there was not much happening there – as the ski season was over and warm weather was yet to come – but I did enjoy a nice dinner (they had a spring promotion, so it was pretty cheap as well).
Similarly, Wasaga Beach was pretty quiet on a cold windy day that I went. There were still some people, walking their dogs or just strolling on the beach like me. And the gulls.
Well, the trip ended up to be a pleasant and relaxing one for me. I would hope to go back again in a warmer day.
